Ageing Well - Falls Prevention

Preventing Falls

As we get older, a fall can have a big impact on our health, confidence and independence. The good news is that there are simple things you can do to reduce your risk of falling and stay active for longer.

Some top tips include:

  • Keep active by walking regularly and taking part in activities that improve strength and balance.

  • Have your eyes tested regularly and wear the correct glasses.

  • Wear well-fitting shoes with good grip and support.

  • Keep your home free from trip hazards such as loose rugs, trailing wires and clutter.

  • Turn on lights when moving around your home, especially at night.

  • Eat well and drink plenty of fluids to keep your body strong and healthy.

  • Speak to your GP or pharmacist if you feel dizzy or are worried that your medication could affect your balance.
