Stop Smoking Resources for Professionals

Information for professionals

At Public Health South Tees, we work closely with healthcare professionals, community workers, and partner organisations who support our residents. We know that the work you do can make a huge difference to people’s health and wellbeing, and we are here to support you in that role.

Whether you are a nurse, pharmacist, healthcare assistant, community worker, or another professional who speaks to people about their health, we can provide training, advice, and resources to help you give the best support possible.

Support by phone

If you have a role in health awareness, you can help people to stop smoking. This could be through brief advice, making referrals, or becoming a trained Stop Smoking Advisor. We offer free training to help you develop the right skills for your role.

Brief intervention training

This training is suitable for a wide range of public-facing services. It will give you the skills and confidence to start a conversation about smoking with your clients or patients, using the “3 As” approach: Ask, Advise, and Act.

We can adapt this training to meet the needs of your organisation and deliver it at a time and place that works for you (minimum numbers apply).

Smoke-free families

We offer training for frontline staff to become Smoke-free Champions. This includes information about the dangers of second-hand smoke, health advice, and practical tips on how to protect children and families from these risks.

Intermediate Stop Smoking advisor training

This is for professionals who have signed a contract with commissioners to deliver a Stop Smoking Service. It gives you the knowledge and skills to support behaviour change and help people to successfully stop smoking.

Training and refresher courses

Our specialist advisors can deliver training for teams or individuals. This ranges from very brief interventions to more advanced training for practitioners, including updates on stop smoking medications (pharmacotherapy).

Resources for workplaces

At Smoke-Free South Tees, we have a variety of resources to support workplaces. We can provide leaflets, posters, and other promotional materials to help share stop smoking messages.
