Sexual health support in South Tees

Our provider of sexual health services in South Tees is Teesside Together.

Teesside Together offer a wide range of services to help local people stay healthy and well. They work with the NHS and local councils to make sure that anyone aged 13 or over can get support.

You can get:

  • free, friendly and private advice

  • free tests for infections (some can be done at home)

  • treatment if you need it

  • contraception, including the morning after pill

If you ever feel unsure or worried about sex or relationships, there are people you can talk to in a safe and supportive space.

For people who are looking for a permanent method to stop having children, a vasectomy service is also available through GP referral.

You can visit one of Teesside Together’s walk-in clinics across South Tees for free, confidential support. These clinics are open to everyone and are run by friendly healthcare professionals who are there to help.

HIV support and testing

The Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) provides friendly, confidential information and support around HIV and sexual health. They work with local communities to help meet sexual health needs and offer a free rapid testing service for HIV, hepatitis C, and syphilis.

THT’s clinics in South Tees provide quick and easy testing, sexual health advice, support, and referrals to other services if needed.

Sexual health support for young people (13-25)

Brook is a service that supports young people under 25 with their sexual health and wellbeing.

In South Tees, Brook runs the C-Card scheme, which gives young people access to free condoms and support. Brook can also connect you to other people and services if you need more help.

Teesside C-Card Scheme

If you are aged 13 to 24 and live or study in South Tees, you can register for a free C-Card.

The C-Card scheme gives you access to:

  • free condoms

  • internal condoms (femidoms)

  • lube

These can help you stay safe and protected. 

How does it work?

You need to register for a C-Card before using the service.

If you’re aged 16 or over, you can register online using the application page on the Brook website.

Once registered, you can pick up free condoms from many places across South Tees; including pharmacies, shops and public buildings.

Look out for the C-Card logo in the window – this means they are part of the scheme.

Need help after unprotected sex?

If you’ve had sex without a condom, or if a condom split, you might need the morning after pill. This can help prevent pregnancy if taken soon after.

If you’re a young person living in South Tees, some local pharmacies can give you the morning after pill for free. Some of these pharmacies can also provide free condoms for future protection.

The staff at these pharmacies are friendly and non-judgemental. Everything you say will be kept private, and they’re there to listen, support and offer advice.
