Immunisations in South Tees
Simple protection against serious illnesses
The World Health Organisation says that “two of the most important things that have made people healthier are clean water and vaccines.”
Vaccines are like a shield that helps protect us from getting poorly. There are vaccines for more than 20 life-threatening diseases. You might not have heard of some of them, and that’s because vaccines have helped stop them from spreading in the UK.
Vaccines work by teaching your body how to fight off infections. They stop diseases, help prevent long-term health problems, and save over 4 million lives around the world every year.
Vaccination programmes help protect people who are most at risk of certain illnesses. This means more people, especially those who need it most, can stay safe and healthy.
We support five main vaccine programmes at Public Health South Tees:
childhood vaccines
teenage vaccines
pregnancy vaccines
older adult vaccines
seasonal vaccines (for example, the flu and COVID-19 vaccines)
You may also need extra vaccines if you have certain medical conditions, a weakened immune system, or if you are travelling to certain countries.
