Mental Wellbeing - South Tees

Mental health and emotional wellbeing

At Public Health South Tees, we’re working to help people of all ages feel mentally well and supported.

We want everyone to feel confident talking about their mental health, know where to turn for help, and have the tools to cope when life gets tough.

Our work includes supporting children and young people to build emotional wellbeing, helping people living with dementia and their carers, and making sure support is available early - before problems get worse.

We’re also working to prevent suicide and support those who may be at risk, while helping communities stay connected and resilient.

By making mental health information easier to understand and access, we aim to give everyone the chance to look after their wellbeing and support others too.

Professionals - supporting mental health in South Tees

This section brings together key local programmes and strategies to help support the mental health and wellbeing of people across South Tees.

It includes information about our local suicide prevention strategy, which aims to reduce risk and improve support for those who may be struggling.

We’re continuing to build this page, so please check back regularly for updates and new resources.

Tees Suicide Prevention Strategic Plan

This plan sets out how we will work together across Teesside to help prevent suicide and support people who are struggling with their mental health.

It covers the next five years, from 2024 to 2029.

To find out more, or read the full plan, visit the Middlesbrough Council website.

We know that suicide can affect anyone – and it can be deeply upsetting for families, friends, and whole communities. That is why it is so important that we keep doing everything we can to prevent it.

Since 2013, we have been working closely with local organisations, health services, charities and community groups to make a difference. This new plan builds on that work.

Over the next five years, we will:

  • work together with local services and communities

  • support people at risk of suicide and help them as early as possible

  • listen to people with lived experience to shape what we do

  • support families and friends who have lost someone to suicide

  • raise awareness and help people talk more openly about mental health

Everyone has a part to play

By working as a team across Teesside, we aim to save lives and make sure people feel supported, heard and understood.
