Find the right support for you

Sometimes it helps to have a chat about your drinking or drug use, even if you are not sure it is a problem. You might just want to understand it better or see what support is out there.

Our local services can give you space to talk things through, answer your questions, and share ideas that might help. There is no pressure, and you decide what happens next.

Exploring your options

Everyone’s experience with alcohol or drugs is different, but there are some signs that might mean it is time to reach out for help. These can include:

  • finding it hard to cut down or stop

  • using alcohol or drugs more often than before

  • noticing changes in your mood, sleep, or energy

  • problems with work, school, or daily life

  • arguments or distance in relationships

  • spending more money than you can afford on alcohol or drugs

  • health problems or feeling unwell after drinking or using drugs

If you notice any of these signs, it could help to talk to someone. Support is free, private, and here when you are ready.

Signs that you might need support

Whether you use alcohol or drugs occasionally or more regularly, it’s helpful to reflect on how they might be affecting different areas of your life; like your health, mood, relationships, or work.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, and no one expects you to have all the answers straight away.

The Cycle of Change is a useful tool that shows the different stages people go through when thinking about making a change, starting to make changes, and maintaining them. It can help you understand where you are right now and what your next step might be.

If you're not quite ready to speak to someone face to face, you can visit the
SMART Recovery website to learn more about the Cycle of Change and explore helpful resources at your own pace.
